Kobe Bryant agreed with the notion that he has two more years left in him,
saying in an interview,
"That's still probably accurate. When I'm 35 it will be my 18th year in the league, that's a long time to be playing. That will be the last year of my contract … I don't know. I'm not sure. I've seen so many players and then they come back … I don't want to be one of those guys, but I'm sure they said it too."
The 34-year-old Bryant has $27.8 and $30.4 million left on his max extension over the next two seasons. And 36-year-old Duncan, who just came off a max contract, recently signed a deal for $9.6 and $10.3 million the next two seasons, with a $10.0 million player option for a third.
You couldn't blame any of them for pacing themselves for two-year runs.
And they are not the only future Hall of Famers who may be thinking retirement in the next two or three years.
Kevin Garnett, 36, Steve Nash, 38, and Jason Kidd, 39, all signed three-year contracts this summer, with KG having a non-guaranteed third-year option. Paul Pierce, 34, Ray Allen, 37, Grant Hill, 39, and Vince Carter, 35, have two years left on their deals, while Manu Ginobili, 35, and Chauncey Billups, 35, both have one year remaining.
