當時戰線進入了壕溝戰的階段，雙方進行消耗的延長戰線，在這種情況下造成雙方誰先進攻誰就處於劣勢的狀態，最後導致死傷率成為一戰中死傷率前幾高的戰役。
此戰役也有同名電影，但因為我並未觀看過，在此不多加評論、推薦。
